Remotasks Review – Worth It or Not? (Full Truth)

Remotasks

Remotasks is a legit micro-task site that pays you for doing small data entry tasks. There are many tasks available so it can be a way to earn some extra cash but it will take patience as the rewards are not high.

There are many ways to earn extra cash online for free. However, it can be difficult to find good options that will actually be worth your time.

One site that offers you a way to earn online from home by doing small tasks is called Remotasks. It is a fairly popular site, so you might have heard about it.

But is Remotasks legit and even worth your time or should you stay away from it and find other options instead?

This Remotasks review will reveal the full truth, so you can decide for yourself if this site is really worth it or not.

I will discuss the earning opportunities as well as other aspects of the site so you will know exactly what to expect before deciding to join or not.

What is Remotasks, and what does it offer?

As the name suggests, Remotasks is a website that will ask you to do tasks, and in exchange, you will get paid once you complete them. Some tasks will be longer than others.

As a Remotasker, you can make full use of the platform to earn while helping them and their clients make the world a more awesome place to be in (or at least that's what they claim to do).

It's important to note that Remotasks is not your usual Get-Paid-To (GPT) site. With that in mind, to get a clear picture of how well you can earn from this site and what you need to do to earn, we have to examine the earning opportunities it offers.

I have, therefore, made a video that will give you an inside look and that shows exactly how you can earn from Remotasks. You can also read all the details below the video:

Option 1 – Tasks

The tasks you can earn from on Remotasks.com are mainly data entry tasks. They are designed to build smarter and better AI. Most of the tasks will ask you any of the following:

  • Draw boxes around cars and other objects
  • Moderate and analyze content
  • Identify spam and related content
  • Categorize t-shirts and other objects

I know it sounds a bit more complicated than your usual GPT stuff (like answering surveys and doing offers), but the site does ask you to undergo training first before you can do any task.

So, you're not really going in empty-handed.

remotasks training center overview
You need to pass training courses to start earning.

To unlock the tasks, you will have to go through their training courses. The idea is pretty simple.

You need to complete a training before a type of task will become available for you to do. It sounds logical, in my opinion, since the tasks aren't that simple from the start.

At the end of each training course, you will have to take a test. You will need to pass the test to complete the course. Once you've passed, you will now be eligible to receive task offers for that certain course.

It requires a bit of patience and perseverance to complete it. So, it is important to set your expectations properly. You do not need to take all the courses, but it is recommended that you do to maximize your earnings on this site.

So, it can take quite some time and effort before you can actually start earning because you will not get paid for the training. That's the main difference between this site and other GPT sites out there, where you can start earning right away.

Also, you have the option to register for the Remotasks Bootcamp, which is a longer training program. In fact, it will take you 10-14 days to complete this program.

If you manage to complete the Bootcamp, you will get access to more tasks and also the highest paying ones. But again, you just need to be aware that you will not get paid for this training, and there is no guarantee you will pass the test at the end of the training.

So I would recommend you do not start the Bootcamp right away but try to complete some of the smaller pieces of training first and complete some tasks to see if this is even for you before investing 2 weeks in further training.

When you start a task, you must follow the instructions carefully and do what it asks you to do. The training will help you be able to do this.

Once you've submitted your work, Remotasks will review it to see if it passes their standard. Once they confirm your work, you will then receive the compensation.

Option 2 – Referral Program

The other way to earn from this site is by inviting people to join the platform. To invite a person, you simply have to share your invite link with them.

remotasks referral program overview
Both you and the person you invite can get a bonus – BUT it is not easy.

You can potentially earn a $10 bonus for every person you invite who joins the site. However, you will not just get the earnings into your account right away – their referral program is a bit more complicated than that.

You will only be awarded the $10 bonus once your friends earn at least $20 by doing tasks in the Remotasks platform.

But your friends will also earn the $10 bonus once they hit the $20 earnings milestone. But, this bonus will only apply if they hit the $20 milestone within two weeks of their registration.

Otherwise, you will not earn from the referral, and the person you invited will also not get their bonus.

So, make sure to explain that to the person you invite. Otherwise, none of you will get the bonus.

In my opinion, this type of restriction doesn't really seem very appealing. It almost feels like you have to go through hoops just to earn the $10.

And considering how long it will take to earn $20 on Remotasks (more about this later), it will NOT be easy to get the referral bonus. And it will not be easy for the person you invite to get their bonus either.

On the flip, if they do qualify, both of you can earn a nice extra bonus.

Remotasks membership tiers

Before we go over how you will get paid, we need to go over the Remotasks membership tiers that they have fairly recently introduced.

They say they have introduced this to give benefits to active members – the benefits are focused on work availability.

This means that as you get a higher membership tier, you will get easier access to tasks and faster support.

There are 3 tiers: Standard, Preferred, and Elite.

remotasks tiers
You will get more benefits when you get a higher membership tier.

To move up the tiers, you just have to stay active. You will earn XP points when you complete tasks, and if you reach a certain number of XP points within a week, you will get 1 Remopoint.

When you have 4 Remopoints you will become a preferred member, and when you have 20 Remopoints, you will become an Elite member.

This can be a great goal if you want to get the most out of Remotasks, but you just need to be aware that it will take patience.

How do you get paid?

Every task you complete and every referral you make will earn you a certain amount of $.

You will then get paid via PayPal or AirTM every week. So, you don't have to hit a specific threshold to withdraw your earnings.

Whatever amount you've earned for the week will be paid via your chosen payout method. The payment happens weekly on Wednesday mornings at 12:00 AM UTC. The amount you will receive will be based on a pay period from 12:00 AM UTC on Wednesday through the cut-off time the following 12:00 AM UTC on Tuesday.

They used to only pay via PayPal but have recently also introduced AirTM as a payout option, and it is always great when a platform offers different alternatives to get paid, in my opinion.

You can provide your payment information by clicking on your name in the upper right-hand corner of the dashboard and clicking Account. You will then see the photo below.

remotasks payment information
You will need to provide your PayPal account on the Account Information page to receive your weekly earnings.

The good thing about their payment system, even though it's a bit complicated, in my opinion, is that it is done automatically. Plus, PayPal is the most convenient and most popular payment option available.

You just need to be aware that a 2% PayPal fee applies, so you will not get the full amount you have earned.

If you are interested in more sites that pay via PayPal, I suggest you also check out the top sites that pay via PayPal.

How much money can you make?

With this kind of site, the amount you can earn will mostly depend on the accuracy of your work.

And when it comes to Remotasks.com, there are some things you need to know to find out if it will really be worth it.

First of all, you need to know that your salary is partly determined by your accuracy. The amount earned increases for every percent you get closer to 100% accuracy.

So, to get full payment, your work must be 100% accurate. In other words, you should master the tasks. Other factors that affect the pay are the task type, task complexity, and rules from the instructions.

Early payout is given for certain projects. After a task is fully reviewed, you may receive an additional payout for high accuracy. So, you do get the chance to receive more if you work quickly and accurately.

It might seem appealing at first, but when you really look at how long it takes to complete the tasks and that you risk not getting a task approved, you should NOT expect a high rate.

Remotasks itself says it can be up to $18 per hour, but that is very unlikely you will ever get there. Most people will have to be lucky to reach a few dollars per hour, and even if you are really good at the tasks, you should still not expect to get above $2-$3 per hour. And there is no guarantee you will be able to earn this, and there is no guarantee there will always be tasks available.

However, if you manage to complete the Remotasks Bootcamp I mentioned earlier, you can potentially earn more.

But you have to remember that before you can even start earning, you, in general, have to invest some time into training tasks.

So overall, I would say that the earning potential of this site is not the best, and the job can be quite tiring, in my opinion.

Remotasks complaints

To make sure you know exactly what to expect, I just wanted to include a section on Remotasks complaints I have heard.

It is important to note that this does not mean that you will experience the same issues, but I have heard quite a lot of certain complaints in comments both here on my website and on my YouTube channel, and therefore wanted to include it here, as there are some important details you need to consider.

First of all, I have heard many times that people complain the rate Remotasks offers is very low. I agree with this, as I also mentioned above, and in my opinion, working for this low a rate is not worth it. However, some people might be happy to work for a low rate like this, and that is then up to them to decide.

So the low rate complaint is not as such a valid complaint in itself, in my opinion, as you can see what you earn before starting to work. However, I have heard some complaints from people who have experienced that the rate was suddenly lowered AFTER the tasks had been completed.

Also, I have seen quite a lot of complaints from people saying that often, tasks you have done very thoroughly are just not approved, which means you will not get paid.

This is, of course, an issue, and since I have heard and seen these complaints quite often, I wanted to highlight it here so you can see that what I mentioned above about there is no guarantee your work will be approved really can affect your earnings dramatically.

If you have any experiences like this yourself, please feel free to share them in a comment below this review.

Can you use it on mobile?

remotasks mobile site

Remotasks doesn't have a mobile app you can download and install on your mobile device. So, if you want to work on tasks on a mobile device, you will have to use a mobile web browser.

The good thing is that their site is optimized for mobile use. So you won't have a hard time navigating through the site.

However, due to the nature of the tasks offered, I suggest you only access this site on a tablet or an iPad. That's because you will need a relatively large screen to work on tasks properly.

Who can join Remotasks?

At first, it looks like Remotasks is available globally.

You will be able to register as a member regardless of where you live and choose more or less any country during the registration process.

remotasks sign up options
You can sign up using a Google or Facebook account.

The registration process is relatively simple, but you will need a Facebook or Google account to sign up or you can just sign up with your email.

However, once you have signed up, you might find out halfway through the registration process that it is not available in your country.

In some countries, this happens, but it is not clear which countries you can join from and which ones you cannot join from.

In fact, you will not find out until after you have given them your phone number.

Once you've registered, the site will ask you to provide your mobile number.

They will then send a verification code via SMS, which you will have to input to complete the registration (refer to photo above).

And not until after you have done this will you be able to see if it is available in your country or not. This is very strange, in my opinion.

They should be very clear about who can join and who cannot. And they should definitely be able to let you know about this before you have to give them your phone number.

So, this lack of transparency is definitely a minus, in my opinion.

It used to be available in more or less all countries, but it seems that due to restrictions and laws in some countries, it is now only available in select countries.

They do have a list on their website that shows the available countries. And they say they update this regularly.

You can see the available countries at the time of updating this review in the image below:

list of remotasks countries
The official list of countries that can join Remotasks – it does, however, not seem like they are good at updating it.

However, it does not seem like they are keeping the list updated, even though they say they are.

I know this as I have been able to use the platform, and I am not living in one of the countries on the list above. So, even if your country is not on the list, it can be worth trying to join if you think it is a good platform for you.

Can you get support?

If you have a question you need to ask, Remotasks do have an FAQ page you can check out first to see if the answer you are looking for is in there.

I must say that they do have a comprehensive FAQ page. So, there's a good chance you will find the answer you are looking for on that page.

remotasks support ticket
If you need to contact their support team, you can file a support ticket in their Help Center.

But if you can't find the answer you are looking for, you can file a support ticket to send in your inquiry. You just have to select the right topic heading so that the support ticket form will display.

They also have a Slack channel you can join if you want to contact their support team or chat with other members.

Overall, I would say that they do provide a good way for you to receive support, which is a good thing because it shows that they do care about your experience as a member of the site.

However, I have seen some complaints about the support not always getting back to members, especially if they have concerns about tasks they have not been paid for.

I have not experienced that myself, but it seems the support can be inconsistent at times, and you just need to be aware of this.

Final Verdict

Remotasks is a legit micro-task site that pays you for doing small data entry tasks and inviting people to join. It has a couple of good qualities and some less-than-ideal ones as well.

So, let's finish this review by summarizing the site's pros and cons so you can get a good overview of what the site has to offer before deciding if it is for you or not.

pros

Pros:

  • Payment via PayPal is available
  • Payment is made automatically
  • Plenty of tasks available
cons

Cons:

  • Low pay
  • Tasks will require patience and quite a bit of effort
  • You will have to take unpaid training courses to start earning
  • Not clear which countries can join
  • Some complaints about poor support and tasks not approved

As you can see, Remotasks isn't your ordinary GPT site. You can earn some extra cash from this site if you are patient enough.

The earning opportunities offered will, however, require a lot of effort on your end. So, don't expect to start earning right away after you join the site. So, if you aren't really into that kind of thing, this site is not for you.

But if that's alright with you, you can stand to earn a bit extra and get paid rather conveniently. Just be aware of the complaints mentioned in the review above so you know exactly what to expect.

However, if you prefer to earn with less effort and time required, I suggest you check out the top GPT sites instead.

Or you can check out the best data entry jobs here, if you prefer that type of work.

The sites on this list all offer simpler ways to earn extra cash. Plus, they all offer plenty of earning opportunities. And you will also be able to find a site you can join regardless of where you live.

    • If they do not accept new applicants there is nothing you can do other than wait until they open up again. But until then, I suggest you just use other methods instead.
