Atom.com Review – Worth Joining? (Not For Everyone)

Atom.com Rating

Atom.com is not for everyone. If you aren’t really a creative person, it will be hard to earn from this site since you have to win a contest to earn.

Is Atom (previously Squadhelp) a site worth joining?

This is probably the question running through your mind right now. It’s a question worth asking, and I will answer it by the end of this Atom.com review.

Atom claims you can earn just by typing names. They even claim you can earn up to $300 by doing this. It’s certainly an intriguing offer. But before you sign up, we first have to examine if it is legit or if it is just a scam.

So, let me address this concern right away so we can move on to the other aspects of the site. Yes, it is a legit site that will pay you to type names (among other things). But the question of whether it is worth joining or not can’t just be answered with a simple yes or no.

We first have to examine everything the site has to offer so you can properly decide if this is a good fit for you or not. So, let’s go ahead and get this review started.

What is Atom, and what does it offer?

Atom, which used to be called SquadHelp, is a company that offers naming services to its clients. It’s the first company that I’ve encountered that offers this kind of service.

Now, for you to earn, you have to be one of its “creatives”.

That means you will be the one coming up with names for Atom’s clients.

Now, to fully understand how it works, we have to first examine the earning opportunities it offers. This will give you a clear picture of what you need to do to earn.  The video below will explain all the details. You can also read all the details below the video.

Option 1 – Coming up with Names

As mentioned above, Atom is primarily a naming service. And one way to earn will be to come up with names for their client's businesses. The main way to do this is by joining any of the naming contests being held.

naming contests on squadhelp
To have a chance at earning, you have to join their naming contests and win.

As you can see in the photo above, every naming contest will show how many creatives have joined the contest, the prize for winning the contest, and the deadline for the contest. Most naming contests will award $300 to the winner. So, their claim that you can earn $300 just by typing a name is true.

But before you can join any naming contest (or any contest for that matter), you will have to participate in the test contests it will assign to you right after joining. If your entry for those contests gets a few likes, you will now be allowed to participate in all the contests of Atom.

However, there’s one thing you have to do before the step mentioned above.

To join their naming contests, you have to pay a $10 sign-up fee.

As you can see in the photo above, if you want to participate in their naming contests, you will have to pay a $10 sign-up fee. By doing so, you will now be eligible to join any naming contest, provided of course, you get likes from the sample contests Atom will give you.

Now, if you are interested in a contest, just join it and submit everything the contest will require from you. Make sure to read the contest brief carefully so you will understand what the contest is asking from you. Also, the number of entries you can submit per contest will actually depend on your percentile ranking (refer to the photo below).

percentile ranking in squadhelp
The number of entries you can submit in contests will depend on your percentile ranking score.

Keep in mind the number of entry submissions Atom will count will not be limited to only one contest. The actual number of entries it will consider will be for all the contests you’ve joined. So, it’s up to you how you want to divide the number of entries by the contests you’ve joined.

When you’ve submitted your entry/entries, just wait for the contest to end since that’s the time the winner will be announced. If you win the naming contest, the prize will be awarded to you and it will be credited to your Atom account balance (I will discuss later how you can withdraw your earnings).

The one downside of this opportunity is that you are not guaranteed any earnings when you participate. You have to win a contest in order to earn. So, if you are looking for a more reliable way to earn, then this is not for you.

Another thing you need to keep in mind is that some naming contests will also require you to include a tagline. It’s a bit more work, but usually, the prize will be higher.

Lastly, some contests are only exclusive to Tier A creatives. These are the creatives who have built a good reputation on Atom by winning contests or providing high-quality entries.

Option 2 – Creating Brand Identity

You can also earn by creating logos, videos, and taglines that will serve as the brand's identity. Take note though that Atom is pretty strict with this earning opportunity. And they only allow graphic designers to participate in the logo or video contests.

This means they will have to test you first so they can see if are qualified to join their logo and video contests. The one good thing about this earning opportunity is that you don’t have to pay the $10 fee to join contests.

But again, if you are not a graphic designer, then I would recommend you don’t even bother participating in this earning opportunity. However, if you are, the process will still be the same. Once Atom recognizes your skill, you just have to join a contest and submit your entry.

If you win, you get the prize. If not, then you just have to move on to the next contest.

Option 3 – Submitting Domains

Lastly, you can also earn by submitting domain names on their domain marketplace. You can do this without paying the $10 sign-up fee. So, if you don’t want to shell out cash, this is the best option you can choose, in my opinion.

There are two options for submitting domains to their marketplace. You can choose to submit standard domain names, or you can also submit Premium domain names. They have a specific guideline you need to follow when you choose to submit domain names to their marketplace.

But the gist is that if the domain isn’t registered yet, Atom will register it for you (they will pay for the registration) and they will list it on the marketplace on your behalf. If a client buys the domain, you get a percentage of the price depending on whether you submitted it as a Standard or Premium domain.

For Standard domain submissions, you'll receive a 7.5% commission. For Premium domain submissions, you'll receive the full amount. Just remember that you'll need to spend money to submit Premium domains, so it won't exactly come without a cost.

If you own the domain name and you were the one who registered it, Atom will only deduct a nominal commission fee.

How do you get paid?

As explained earlier, after you win your first contest, the prize will be automatically credited to your account immediately. Then, if you want to withdraw your earnings, you can just request a payout.

You don’t need to earn a certain amount to request a payout. As long as you have money in your account balance, you can request a payout immediately.

You then have to choose if you want to get paid via PayPal or Payoneer. During your first payout, you will have to submit your W9 or W8-BEN form. Once you’ve done that, your payout will be processed 7 days after the date of request.

If you have won more than 5 contests, and your account is in good standing (i.e., no policy violations), payouts will be processed within 1-3 business days after they are requested.

Their payment system is relatively straightforward and I do like the fact that they offer payment via PayPal since that is one of the most convenient payment methods available today, in my opinion.

If you are interested in more sites that use a convenient payment method, I recommend you also check out the top sites that pay via PayPal.

How much money can you make?

As explained earlier, the one downside of Atom is that there’s no guarantee you will ever earn from it. You have to win the contests you join in order to earn. But as for the amount you can possibly earn from Atom, it will usually range from $100 to $300.

That’s a pretty significant amount, in my opinion. For selling domains, there’s no exact amount and I can’t personally say too much about this opportunity because I haven’t tried it. However, based on my experience, selling domain names can be a profitable venture.

So, you can expect to earn more from it compared to just winning contests. But overall, I would say the earning potential of Atom is good. But it’s not something you can reliably earn from since there are no earning opportunities that offer guaranteed earnings.

If you prefer to earn consistently, this is not for you. You are better off joining survey or Get-Paid-To (GPT) sites, in my opinion.

Can you use it on mobile?

Atom doesn’t have a mobile app you can download, but you can still log in to their member dashboard from a mobile device by just using a mobile web browser. Their site is mobile-friendly, so you will easily get used to using it.

The fact that you can conveniently use their website from a mobile device can be a huge plus because you can join contests even when you are not in front of your computer. So, you can just join any contests and if you can come up with a good entry and you are not in front of your computer, you can still submit it before you forget it.

That’s the best scenario I can think of where having a mobile-friendly site can come in handy.

Who can join Atom?

The best thing about it, in my opinion, is it is available globally. You can register as a member regardless of where you live. You just have to be at least 18 years of age to sign up, and you have to have either a PayPal or Payoneer account before you even think about registering.

how to sign up on squadhelp
When you fill out their sign-up form, make sure to indicate you are signing up as a creative.

The registration process is really simple. You just have to fill out their registration form and indicate that you are signing up as a creative. That’s the most important part.

When you are done with that, you just have to complete your profile, and then you can log in to the member dashboard and start the process of joining contests.

As explained earlier, though, if you plan to join the naming contests, you will have to pay a $10 sign-up fee. This is the only fee you have to pay if you decide to become an Atom creative.

Can you get support?

If you have any questions about the site or the exact process of their contests, you can check out their FAQ page. It is pretty comprehensive, so you’ll find everything you need to know about the site on that page.

Now, if you can’t find the answers you are looking for, you can click the Contact link provided on their homepage. It will show you the options on how you can get in touch with their support team. You can either email them or chat with their support representative. You can also call the number provided if you want to speak to a representative immediately.

Overall, I would say they have a good support system in place for their members. Their FAQ page is professionally done, in my opinion, and they offer several ways for you to communicate with their support team.

That’s all you can ask for from a website, in my opinion.

Final Verdict

Atom is a legit naming service that will allow you to possibly earn by coming up with names for their client’s apps, websites, or even businesses. It has a couple of good features, but it also has some limitations you need to consider.

Let me wrap up this review by summarizing its pros and cons so you can get a clear overview of what Atom has to offer. Then, you can decide if this is a good fit for you or not.

pros

Pros:

  • Offers payment via PayPal
  • No payout threshold
  • Available worldwide
cons

Cons:

  • There’s no guarantee you can earn
  • One of their earning opportunities will require a sign-up fee

In my opinion, Atom is not for everyone. If you aren’t really a creative person, it would be hard to earn from it you actually have to win a contest to earn. That means you should be able to come up with high-quality names that Atom’s clients will like.

If this is something you are not confident with, then I recommend you stay away from this site. But if you think you are up to the challenge, then, by all means, go for it. You can earn a significant amount if you win some of their contests.

But if you are looking for a surefire way of earning, I would suggest you check out the top survey and GPT sites in your country instead. The sites on this list all have good earning potential, and you can start earning immediately after you sign up.
