One way to earn decent extra money online is to test apps – and it can even be a fun way to earn. One site that claims you can earn by testing mobile apps is called Beta Family.
But is Beta Family legit, or is it just a scam you need to stay away from?
That is important to know before joining any user testing platform, and I’m always looking for new ways to earn extra cash online. I, therefore, decided to try it out to see what it is all about.
In this Beta Family review, I will share what I have learned from testing it so you’ll know exactly what to expect from it and can decide if it is a site you should join or not.
What is Beta Family, and what does it offer?
Beta Family is a user-testing site that will allow you to earn money by testing mobile apps. It is indeed a legit site since you will really get paid to test apps.
Now, the question is, is it worth it?
Well, the first step to answering this question is to examine the earning opportunity it offers. That way, you can properly gauge the amount of time and effort required to earn from it.

The earning opportunity – Testing mobile apps
The only way to earn from this site is to test mobile apps. Once you become a Beta Family tester, you can log in to the member dashboard to view all the available apps you can test.
Just be aware that not all testing projects will pay you. As you can see in the photo above, you will immediately know if a project will pay you or not. For paid tests, you will see the amount you will earn (refer to the photo above).
If a test doesn’t display an amount in dollars, it is not a paid test. So, if you are only interested in earning, you can ignore the unpaid tests.
If you are interested in doing a paid test, just click it, and you will be taken to the test page. You will see the basic details of the test. But, to do the test, you will have to apply for it, so you just have to click the “Apply” button.
A message will appear saying that you will have to wait for confirmation from Beta Family if your application is accepted. The confirmation will be sent via email. You will also receive a notification on the member dashboard if your application is accepted.
If you get accepted as a tester, you will receive further instructions on what you need to do. There’s no exact deadline for when you’ll hear back from the site, but it usually doesn’t take more than a couple of days to hear back from them.
Once you get accepted, all that’s left to do is do the test. Keep in mind that when testing, you have to be mean (so to speak) to the app. In other words, you have to force the app to make errors because that is your job – finding errors and bugs. It requires a bit of imagination and some experience to do this, but once you get used to it, it will be a bit easier to do, in my opinion.
You also have to describe in detail if you’ve found a bug. When you do encounter a bug, try to reproduce it whenever possible so you can provide step-by-step instructions on how to replicate the error/bug. And lastly, you need to be honest when testing.
By remembering these things, you can properly perform test projects. Once you are done testing, you must submit your report for review. Beta Family will then review your report, and when everything is in order, they will award the compensation to you. In the next section, I will discuss how you will get paid.

How do you get paid?
Every time you complete a paid test, you will receive a certain amount, which will be credited to your Beta Family account balance. Once you’ve reached the payout threshold of $50, you’ll be able to withdraw your earnings via PayPal.
To withdraw your earnings via PayPal, you have to link your PayPal account first. You can do this by going to the Account Settings and clicking Payout Information. You’ll then see something similar to the photo above. Just provide your PayPal address, and you are good to go.
The payment system of Beta Family is very straightforward, and I like the fact that it offers a convenient payment system like PayPal. However, the payout threshold is quite high, so you’ll have to be very patient because it can take a while before you can reach it.
If you prefer sites that have a low payout threshold, you can check out the fastest paying sites instead.
How much money can you make?
The amount you can earn from Beta Family will depend on how many paid tests you can complete. When I was testing the site, there was a decent number of tests available, but there were only two paid tests.
And since there’s no guarantee you will be accepted for the testing projects, you can’t expect to earn regularly from this site. But as for how much you can earn for every project, it will be about $5 to $20, which isn’t a bad rate, in my opinion.
But since there aren’t a lot of opportunities to earn, it will take you a lot of time to reach the payout threshold so you can withdraw your earnings. That’s why I would say the earning potential of this site is quite low. You will have to be very patient because it can take months before you can withdraw your earnings.
Can you use it on mobile?
Beta Family doesn’t have a mobile app you can download, but you can still access the website from a mobile device. You just have to use a mobile web browser, and since the site is optimized for mobile use, you won’t have a hard time navigating the site.
This is a good thing because I highly recommend you use your mobile device when working on the site since you will have to test mobile apps. That way, you won’t have to switch back and forth between your computer and mobile device when doing the testing.
Who can join Beta Family?
Beta Family is available worldwide. You’ll be able to register as a member regardless of where you live. But you have to be at least 18 years of age to become a Beta Family tester.
To register as a tester, you can use your Google account. You can also just create your login details. After you’ve completed the sign-up form, Beta Family will send you a confirmation email.
Just click the confirmation link in the email to complete your registration. Once you’ve done that, you can log in to the site and start earning. But before you do that, I highly suggest you link your PayPal account so that you won’t have to do it later on when it’s time to withdraw your earnings.
Can you get support?
If you have any questions about the site or your account, you can check out the FAQ page first. It discusses some of the basic topics you need to know about the site. It’s not as comprehensive as you might’ve hoped, so there’s a chance it won’t be very helpful.
If you can’t find the answers you are looking for, you can just get in touch with the support team by sending your inquiry via their contact form. Overall, I would say the site does have a decent support system in place for its members since it offers a way for you to request assistance easily.
That being said, I do wish their FAQ page would provide a bit more useful information.
Final Verdict
Beta Family is a legit user testing site that will pay you for testing mobile apps. It has a couple of good features, but it also has a few limitations you need to keep in mind.
To end this review, let me summarize its pros and cons so you can get an overview of what the site offers. Then, you can decide if you should push through with signing up or not.

Beta Family is not a bad user-testing site, in my opinion. However, it’s also not that good. The main reason why I say this is that the site offers limited earning opportunities, so it can take a while before you will be able to earn a significant amount, even though it pays a decent amount per test project.
That’s why I would only suggest you join this site if you need an additional user testing site to earn from. Otherwise, you are better off joining sites that offer more earning opportunities.
