Ecency is a unique website that claims you can earn various digital tokens and be part of a community at the same time.

But is Ecency a scam, or is it really legit?

I’ve decided to sign up and see for myself what this site is all about. In this Ecency review, I will share all my experiences so you will know exactly what to expect from them.

That way, you can decide if this is really a site worth investing your time in or not. So, let’s go ahead and take a closer look at Ecency, shall we?

What is Ecency and what does it offer?

Ecency is a blockchain-based social network powered by Hive, a company that makes various blockchain-based platforms. And yes, Ecency is indeed a legit site since it will really reward its members for creating content on the platform.

As you can see in the photo above, a post has several parts namely the title, body, tags, and community. Among the four, the most important part is the tags.

The reason why I say this is, the tags you set will actually dictate which community it will be posted to. For example, if you set the primary tag of a post to photography, your post will appear in the Photography community.

You can include four additional tags aside from the primary tag. You have to make sure the tags you choose are actually appropriate for the community you want them to appear in. Otherwise, your post will be tagged as spam, and you will be penalized.

So, how can you earn from the content you just posted?

Here’s the confusing part of Ecency. You can actually earn four types of rewards from this site – Hive, Hive Power, Hive Dollars, and points. Later, I will discuss in the payment section what the difference is between the 4 options.

But for now, what you need to be aware of is that when posting content you can earn both Hive Power and Hive Dollars. You can actually set the percentage of how much you can earn per post. If you go to the advanced settings of the post, you can set the rewards to 50/50 or 100%. Also, you will automatically earn a certain number of points when you post your content.

As for the percentage, it refers to the Hive Power and Hive Dollars you will receive when somebody up-votes your post. If you choose the 50/50 option, you will receive 50% of the reward in Hive Power and 50% in Hive Dollars. If you choose the 100% option, you will receive 100% of the rewards in Hive Power.

So, the idea behind posting content on Ecency is to get up-votes from other members in order to earn. That’s really the goal of this earning opportunity. That is why you need to always make sure your post will be interesting and even engaging if you hope to earn from it.

Option 2 – Interacting with posts

You can also earn rewards by interacting with posts, specifically, commenting and sharing someone else’s post. By doing so, you will earn points, which will be a different reward.

So, after you’ve posted your content, what you can do to earn more rewards is to browse other posts on the platform and comment or share them. The site really doesn’t explain how many points you will earn for doing so, but it does guarantee you will receive points if you interact with other posts.

When leaving a comment on the post, you need to make sure your comment is not spammy. Make sure to leave a comment that is really relevant to the post or it will be marked as spam and you will be penalized.

The penalty will affect your overall earnings from the site, so make sure to avoid being tagged as spam when leaving comments (or even when creating posts).

Option 3 – Referral program

Lastly, you can earn additional rewards by inviting other people to join Ecency through its referral program. All you have to do is share your invite link with the person you want to invite.

Then, when the person registers as a member using your link, they will become your referral. However, your referral must first earn 250 points before you will receive the referral reward which is 100 points.

So, make sure to invite people who are really interested in becoming active members on the site because reaching 250 points is no joke. They can only reach this requirement if they create their own posts, comment, or share other posts.

How do you get paid?

As explained above, there are 4 different rewards available on Ecency: HIVE, Hive Power, Hive Dollars, and points. Let’s talk about points first because it is the easiest to understand.

The points you’ve earned will show up in your Ecency wallet. You can then use the points you’ve earned to boost your own posts so they can be seen by more people, or you can gift them to other members of the site.

HIVE, on the other hand, are tradeable tokens that may be transferred at any time. Think of it as the primary cryptocurrency the platform uses. It can also be converted to Hive Power in a process called powering up.

Hive Power is a different form of Hive. It’s actually just HIVE that is placed on staking and can be unstaked after 13 weeks. When you unstake it, it will be converted to HIVE, which you can then withdraw to your crypto wallet.

But Hive Power holds another significance in the platform. It’s actually also used as a sort of ranking for members of the site and it will affect the rewards you will receive when you get an up-vote from your posts.

Let me explain how it works. If a person with a high Hive Power up-votes your post, you will receive more rewards compared to a person with low Hive Power. In other words, it is how Ecency measures the influence of a member.

As for Hive Dollars, they are actually just a liquid version of HIVE. In other words, you can convert it any time. 1 Hive Dollar is equivalent to $1 worth of HIVE.  

Among all the rewards you will receive from Ecency, HIVE is what you are really after because this is the cryptocurrency you can withdraw to your crypto wallet. And the good thing about this crypto is, a lot of crypto wallets already support this, including Binance.

So, if you want to convert your HIVE to fiat currency, I would highly suggest you transfer it to your Binance wallet. You can also do it easily because Ecency doesn’t have a payout threshold you need to reach to withdraw your earnings.

Overall, the payment system of Ecency is quite confusing especially if you are just starting out with cryptocurrency. You need to learn when to convert your HIVE to Hive Power and vice versa, in order to achieve the proper balance of earning enough and becoming an influential member of the site.

In other words, it’s really hard to control your earnings and you will most likely see a huge variance in terms of earnings per post. Sometimes, you might earn only $1 from your post, and sometimes you might earn $20 or more from another post.

That is why I would say the earning potential of this site will mostly depend on your skills as a content creator. If you are new to this kind of field, you will have a hard time earning from this site, so I definitely don’t recommend you join this site if that is the case.

You are better off joining sites that offer simpler ways to earn. But if you are already a seasoned content creator and you are confident with your skills and you don’t have your own website or blog, this can be a decent platform to join.

But if you already have your own monetized platform (website or blog), sticking with that is your best option, in my opinion, because the earning potential will be significantly better.

Can you use it on mobile?

Ecency has a mobile app you can use so you can create content, post comments, or share other posts on the go. The app will work with both Android and iOS devices, so you will not encounter any compatibility issues.

The best situation I can think of for using the app is when you are out and about and you aren’t doing anything. You can just log in to the platform, read posts, and comment. You can also easily share posts using the app.

As for creating content, it would be hard to do it on a mobile app if the content you want to post will contain a lot of words. It’s probably best if your content will just contain a few sentences and a video if you are creating the post on your mobile device.

For longer posts, it would be best to do it on a computer, in my opinion.

Who can join Ecency?

The best thing about Ecency, in my opinion, is that it is available globally. So, you can register as a member regardless of where you live.

The registration process is also quite easy. You just have to provide your email address and username. Then, Ecency will send a confirmation email. Just click the link and your registration will be completed. You will then receive another email containing your password.

Copy the password provided and login to the site and go to your user settings. I would then suggest you change your password to one that you can easily remember. Using the auto-generated password can be a pain especially if you are trying to log in to the site on a different device where the password is not saved.

After you’ve changed your password, you can now start posting your own content on the platform. Just be aware that they have guidelines that you need to follow when posting content. I would suggest you read that first before posting anything.

Can you get support?

If you have any questions about the site or your account, you can refer to the FAQ page of the site. It discusses most of the common topics you need to know about the site. It has a fairly comprehensive FAQ page, so you will most likely find the answers you are looking for.

The site doesn’t have a contact form you can use to send your inquiries, but it does have a Discord and Telegram channel you can join so you can get in touch with an Ecency representative.

Overall, I would say they have a decent support system in place since they offer a way for you to communicate with their support team, but I do wish they would at least provide a contact form or even an email address so you can send in your inquiries without using a different messaging platform.

Ecency is a legit social network site that will reward you for creating content and being active on the site. It has a couple of good features, but it also has some disadvantages you need to be aware of.

Let me finish this review by summarizing its pros and cons so you can get an overview of what the site has to offer. Then, you can decide if this is a good fit for you or not.

If your goal is to earn extra cash, then this is not the best site to join simply because there’s no guarantee you will earn from creating posts. You will have to be a skilled content creator to earn a decent amount from this site.

Plus, their complicated payment system also doesn’t help. If you are new to cryptocurrency, it will take some time to get used to how their reward system works. In my opinion, Ecency simply doesn’t offer a lot of reasons for you to use it.

You are better off joining survey or Get-Paid-To (GPT) sites if you want to earn cash. But if you are just looking for a platform to blog, this can be a decent option. You don’t have to set up your own website to share your blog posts.
