Option 1 – Delivering Orders

The primary way to earn with GoPuff is by delivering orders to customers. Once you become a delivery partner, you must install their driver app (more on this later). Then, you can use the app to check for orders in your area.

Now, what’s different about GoPuff compared to other delivery apps I have tested is that you won’t have to go to a certain store to pick up the order. Instead, you’ll need to go to their warehouse. So, in effect, the starting point for every delivery will be their warehouse.

To start the delivery process, you’ll have to choose an order to fulfill. Then, you must go to the warehouse and pick it up. Here are the steps you must follow:

• Find the bin containing your order
• Scan the QR code for each component listed on your pickup screen
• Scan the barcode of the bin containing those components
• Once you see “All Picked Up!”, you’re ready to hit the road

Then, all that’s left to do is deliver the order to the customer. Now, one important thing you need to remember is that if you are delivering alcohol to customers, which you will often do, since many customers use GoPuff to buy alcohol, you’ll have to scan the customer’s ID to determine if they are of legal age to buy alcohol.

If everything is in order, you can deliver the items. The customer confirms the order has been delivered by providing a PIN. You’ll need to input the PIN on the order page (inside the app) to complete the delivery.

When this happens, the payment will be credited to your account. Later, I will discuss how their payment system works.

The customer also has the option to tip you. Now, all payments go through the app, so you won’t actually be dealing with cash.

If the order was canceled or, for some reason, you can’t confirm the customer's age (for regulated products like alcohol and tobacco), you have to return the order to the warehouse. You are not required to return it immediately, but please note that you can’t accept a new delivery order until you return the canceled one.

Take note that you also can’t accept multiple orders, which is its biggest downside, in my opinion, because you’ll have to keep going back to the warehouse to pick up orders. So, keep that in mind when you make your decision.

Option 2 – Missions

Missions are incentives that offer you additional opportunities to earn. Most of the time, it involves completing a set number of deliveries within a set period of time.

They are periodically offered to eligible delivery partners in the app's Earnings tab. You’ll need to click “Start Mission” to participate.

You are not required to complete a Mission you’ve started, and there is no penalty for not doing so. They exist solely to offer additional earning opportunities. So, you can think of them as bonus rewards for simply being a delivery partner.

How do you get paid?

As explained above, you’ll earn a certain amount for completing a delivery order or mission. Each order will have a base pay, so you’ll know the minimum amount you can earn for completing it.

What’s good about their payment system is that if the customer decides to leave a tip, you get to keep all of it. Just bear in mind that customers are not required to leave a tip.

Now, the question is, how can you withdraw your earnings?

Well, GoPuff uses Stripe as its payment gateway. So, if you don’t have a Stripe account yet, you need to sign up for one.

You don’t need to reach a threshold to receive your earnings, so you can withdraw them anytime you want. What’s good about Stripe is that it lets you withdraw your earnings directly to your bank account.

So, essentially, you will get paid via direct bank transfer, which is a convenient payout method, in my opinion.

Just keep in mind that there will be transaction fees involved when withdrawing your earnings to your bank account. So, it’s best to let your earnings accumulate before you withdraw them, to save on transaction fees, in my opinion.

In my experience, the amount you can earn from a gig economy app like GoPuff will mostly depend on your location. That’s because there will be more orders in large cities compared to small ones.

As for how much you can earn per order, I can’t give you an exact amount, because it will really depend on several factors:

• traffic conditions
• road closures or detours
• order complexity
• weather

The good thing, though, is that the base pay will also be shown in the delivery order, so you can easily figure out which orders to take. • Smartphone with the most up-to-date operating system
• Willing & able to pass a pre-paid regulated product delivery course (where applicable)

In the UK, the requirements are:

• At least 18 years old
• Have a valid and in-date passport, UK birth certificate, or travel document
• If you plan on delivering with a car or motorbike, you must have a valid and in-date driving license as well as insurance that provides cover for the carriage of goods

After filling out the form, GoPuff will review your application. This will involve doing a background check, which you don’t have to pay for.  If you pass the background check, you’ll receive a notification that you can start working as a delivery driver.
