If you wish to get paid in cash for surveys, one of the easiest ways is through PayPal.

However, there are a few important steps you need to follow to ensure you receive your earnings without issues.

In this article, I will explain step by step how to set up your PayPal account correctly and how to get paid for surveys through PayPal.

Be, however, sure to check the newest terms and conditions on PayPal's own website, as changes can happen without notice.

What is PayPal?

If you are unfamiliar with PayPal, I will first explain what it is so you know what you are signing up for.

PayPal is one of the leading companies in online payments. They make it possible to send and receive money online.

Often, you can receive money just by stating your email address. Many online shops and services also offer the option to pay with PayPal.

It is secure and fast, and is accepted by buyers and sellers in over 200 countries.

Why use PayPal to get paid for surveys?

If you prefer getting paid in cash when you do paid surveys, PayPal is one of the easiest ways. And as it is also used in many countries, it is also the way most survey sites offer if they pay in cash.

You can see my top 10 survey sites to see which sites pay through PayPal.

In case you live in a country where PayPal is not available, then do not try to cheat and get someone else to create an account or use a VPN when creating one. PayPal has strict security, and you will just end up getting banned and losing your earnings.

Instead, check out the best sites that pay via bank transfer here.

Or alternatively, you can check out the best Payoneer paying sites here, as Payoneer is available in many countries where PayPal is not.

On some survey sites, you can only sign up if you have a PayPal account, as they only pay this way.

A few survey sites still do not offer to pay electronically, but only through check. I find that too slow, as many of the sites I do surveys on are in another country than where I live. And I would also have to take the check to a bank once I receive it.

With PayPal, once you have your account and have it connected to a certain survey site, all you have to do is a few clicks, and then the money will automatically be transferred to your account.

How you connect your PayPal to a survey site depends on which survey site it is. Some require you to give your PayPal account info when you sign up, and then it is already set up. If that is not the case, you can usually set it up where you select how you want to get paid or where you request a payout.

It can be good to know that the survey companies cannot take money out of your PayPal account because you will only have given them the email that your PayPal account is registered with. This is enough for them to transfer money to you, but they cannot take money out.

If any survey site says it will charge an amount for signing up and asks you for more information like your card number, etc., do not sign up.

All decent survey sites are free to sign up for and will not ask for card details. If it does, it is very likely a scam and not worth signing up for.

How to set up your PayPal account?

set up paypal account

To get paid via PayPal, you first need to open an account. But don't worry, it is completely free to sign up for PayPal.

Now, I suggest you sign up for a personal account instead of a business account because a business account is not needed to get paid by survey sites.

They do, however, most often charge fees when you make or receive a payment, so check this on the individual survey sites. For me, this small commission they charge is, however, worth it for the ease of it.

Opening your account only takes a few minutes. Just go to PayPal's website and click “sign up,” and fill out the information they ask for.

Again, I just want to emphasize that PayPal is a trusted company that is very secure. You can do a bit of research to verify this if you want to.

This does, however, not mean that there are never issues with PayPal. If they see any suspicious activity, they can ban your account without warning.

So, even if you do not do any suspicious activity, it can be good to also sometimes use other payout options and not have too much money in your PayPal account, as there are examples of people suddenly getting their PayPal account locked without explanation, and for no obvious reason. So, just something to consider, as diversification is always great, in my opinion.

How to verify my PayPal account?

Some survey sites demand that you have a verified PayPal account before they can pay out.

They do this for security reasons, as a lot of people try to cheat survey sites. For them, requiring you to have a verified PayPal account is a way to make sure you are the person you say you are.

A verified account is good to have anyway, and it does not take long to do, and I will, therefore, also explain how you do this.

To verify your account, you must add and confirm a bank account.

The benefit of doing this is that the limit for how high an amount you can transfer will be removed, and you will also be able to transfer money from your PayPal account to your bank account.

To add your bank account using PayPal's website, you must follow these steps:

  1. Go to Wallet.
  2. Click Link a card or bank.
  3. Click Link a bank account.
  4. Search for your bank or select it from the list.
  5. You can link your bank instantly by entering your bank login details. If the instant option isn't available, enter your bank account details manually and click Agree and Link.

To link a bank using PayPal's app, you must follow these steps:

  1. Tap Accounts.
  2. Tap + across from “Banks and cards.”
  3. Tap Banks.
  4. Search for your bank or select it from the list.

After adding your bank account, the next step is to confirm it. You can confirm your bank account instantly by entering your bank login details. PayPal will use a third-party provider to confirm your bank account details and to check your balance and transactions as needed, which can help your PayPal payments go through.

To confirm your bank account, follow these steps:

  1. Go to your Wallet.
  2. Click the bank account you want to confirm.
  3. If available, you’ll see the instant bank confirmation on the next screen.

Alternatively, you can request that PayPal deposit up to 2 random amounts into your bank account by selecting Link your bank account another way.

If you enter your bank account number manually, it will prompt you to confirm this bank account. Within 3 business days, check your bank statement for 2 small deposits (each between $0.01 and $0.99) that PayPal sent. You can also contact your bank to find out the exact amounts of these deposits.

Then, you can enter these amounts in your PayPal account to finish confirming your bank account.

Now, if you want to confirm a bank you've linked using the web version of PayPal, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Wallet.
  2. Click the bank you want to confirm.
  3. Enter the exact amounts of the 2 deposits made to your account. For example, if you receive two deposits of $.05 and $.15, enter .05 and .15 on the screen.
  4. Click Submit.

After doing these steps, your bank account will be confirmed, and your PayPal account will now become a verified account.

Just be aware that PayPal, like any other company, sometimes changes its terms and conditions. So make sure you check their newest conditions on their website. It might have changed since I did this post.

I hope this walkthrough has made it clear how you set up your PayPal account and start getting paid for surveys this way, and why it can be beneficial to do so.

    • Hi Reza,

There will be some options. I have a list of worldwide sites you can check out here. You will also be able to join all of these from Iran. But there might be limited survey opportunities so it is a good idea to also make sure to remember that many of the sites also have other small tasks you can do to earn. They can be great to use if you do not find many surveys.

      Hope this helps

  3. Hi, I’m from Argentina and I’m starting with surveys. Your information is very useful for me. I have a question with Paypal. What type of account should I open? personal or business? Sorry but I’ve never done this kind of work and I’m lost.

  4. Hi Mikael

I am in Australia and hoping to start surveys. I would probably prefer the bank account rather than PayPal as currently I do not have a PayPal account. From what I have seen briefly, it looks as if PayPal offers more chances for survey sites. What is your opinion about this?
I feel lost! Which 3-5 survey sites to begin with?

    Thank you!
