Ubertesters Review: Legit or Scam? (An Inside Look)

So, officially, the testing community you need to join is called PrimeTesters, but the company that runs the tests is called Ubertesters. Now, since most people just refer to it as Ubertesters, this is what I will mainly call it in the rest of this review.

And yes, it is certainly a legit site because you will really get paid to test websites and apps. But this doesn’t automatically mean Ubertesters is worth your time.

To figure out if you should invest your time in it, you have to first understand how it works. The best way to do that is to take a closer look at the earning opportunities it offers so you will know how much time and effort is required to earn.

The earning opportunity – Testing projects

The only way to earn from Ubertesters is by working on testing projects. Once you become a tester for Ubertesters, you will be assigned projects to work on from time to time.

It can take some time before Ubertesters will assign a project to you, so you have to be very patient. Once you get matched with a project, you will receive an email with the project details. It’s up to you if you want to accept or reject the project.

If you wish to work on the project, just click the “Join Now” button, and it will take you to the project page. This page is where you can review all the bugs, crashes, issues, feedback, and test cases related to the project.

During testing, you will be asked to use the QA management tool. This tool works with both computers and mobile devices.

While testing, the tool will record your screen so Ubertesters can easily see and replicate the bugs you discover. Once you are done testing, you have to submit the report.

The most important thing you need to remember when conducting tests is to follow the instructions provided by the project. After you’ve submitted the report, Ubertesters will take up to a couple of days to finish reviewing your work.

If you followed the instructions down to the letter, you should get paid for every bug or issue you find. In the next section, I will discuss how you will get paid.

How do you get paid?

The payment rate of Ubertesters will depend on your experience, testing location, and the complexity of the project. Ubertesters' payment system is a bit more complex than that of other user-testing sites.

You’ll start with a specific hourly rate depending on the results of the test you took when you registered as a tester (I will discuss how you can join later). This will serve as your base pay for every project you complete.

This hourly rate may increase depending on your performance as a tester. In other words, you have to make sure you do well in every project you work on to increase your rate.

Every time you complete a project, you will receive a certain amount depending on your hourly rate and the bugs, issues, and other errors you find. This amount will be credited to your Ubertesters account balance.

Then, Ubertesters will pay you via the payment method you choose (refer to the photo above). However, they don’t specify which time of the month they will process the payment. Based on my experience, it is usually done at the end of the month, so you can expect to receive the pay the first week of the following month.

The good thing is that you don’t need to earn a specific amount to withdraw your earnings. As long as you’ve earned something for the month, it will be sent to you via the payment method you selected at the end of every month.

Overall, while Ubertesters' payment system sounds a bit complicated, I do like the fact that it offers a convenient payment method like PayPal. If you are interested in more sites that offer a convenient payment method, I recommend you check out the top sites that pay via PayPal.

How much money can you make?

As explained above, your hourly rate will depend on your experience and skills as a tester. But the main factor that will determine how much money you can make from this site will depend on the availability of projects.

And unfortunately, you don’t have control over how many projects will be assigned to you. And based on my experience, there aren’t really a lot of projects to work on. So, earning regularly from Ubertesters is not possible, in my opinion.

That’s why I would say the earning potential of Ubertesters is quite low. You will have to be very patient if you want to earn a significant amount from this site.

Can you use it on mobile?

Ubertesters has a mobile app you can use to perform tests for other mobile apps. The app will only work with Android devices, though. If you are an iOS user, then you will just have to settle with testing websites instead.

The app is relatively easy to use, and you will not encounter any annoying pop-up ads while using it. Just take note that the app will only be used for testing. If you want to check your account or your earnings, you will have to log in to the member dashboard instead.

Who can join Ubertesters?

Ubertesters doesn’t tell you exactly which countries it is available in, but from what I can tell, it is available more or less worldwide. However, the registration process isn’t as straightforward as you might have hoped.

The first thing you need to do is to fill out the registration form. You can find a link for this on PrimeTesters website.

Then, you need to confirm your registration by clicking the link in the email that will be sent to you.

After you’ve done that, you will have to complete your profile. Then, you’ll have to connect the devices you can use for testing. For Ubertesters to accept you as a tester, you must have a computer and a mobile device you can use for testing.

Once you’ve connected your devices, you’ll have to take the online test. You’ll have to answer a set of questions and complete a sample test.

This is what Ubertesters will use to evaluate you and assign you an hourly rate if they decide to accept your application.  After you’ve completed the test and passed, you can now start earning as a tester. But as explained earlier, you have to wait until the site assigns projects to you before you can potentially earn.

Can you get support?

If you have any questions about the site or your account, you can check out the FAQ page first. It’s not as comprehensive as you might have hoped, but it discusses most of the basic topics you need to know.

Ubertesters also has a YouTube channel you can check out, and it contains some video tutorials you can watch. But if you really need to talk to the support staff, you can click the message icon in the lower right-hand corner of the website and fill out all the necessary fields.

That’s how you can communicate with their support department. Overall, I would say the site provides decent support for its members since it offers a convenient way for you to get in touch with their support team.

Final Verdict

Ubertesters is a legit user testing site that will pay you for completing user testing projects. It has a couple of decent features, but it also has a few drawbacks you need to be aware of.

Let me finish this review by summarizing its pros and cons to give you an overview of what Ubertesters offers. Then, you can decide if you should go for it or not.

Ubertesters is not a bad user testing site. However, it’s not a good one either. It pales in comparison to other user testing sites, in my opinion, in terms of earning potential because there aren’t a lot of opportunities to earn.

So, if you are really intent on earning as a site or app tester, then I suggest you check out the best user testing sites that pay instead.

But if you are just looking for any way to earn extra cash, I recommend you check out the top survey and GPT sites in your country as well. The sites on this list all have good earning potential, so you will be able to earn a decent amount in no time.
