UXTesting Review: Legit or Scam? (An Insider’s Look)

UXTesting is a website that claims you can earn money by trying out new products and giving feedback.

But the big question is, is it legit or just another scam to stay away from?

I have tested many sites like this over the years, so I know, based on experience, that not all of them are worth your time. And in this UXTesting review, not only will I check if the site is legit, but I will also give you an inside so you will know exactly what to expect from it.

Then, you can properly identify if it is worth your time or not. So, let’s go ahead and check out the UXTesting is all about, shall we?

What is UXTesting, and what does it offer?

UXTesting, as the name suggests, is a user testing site that will let you earn by testing various products.

And yes, it is legit because you can really earn rewards from it. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is a site that is worth your time.

To find out if you should join UXTesting, the first step is to understand how it works. The only way to do so is to take a look at the earning opportunity it offers so you will have a clear idea of how much time and effort is needed to earn from it.

So, here’s how to earn from UXTesting.

The earning opportunity – Testing projects

From time to time, you’ll be invited to participate in testing projects. But unlike most user testing sites, UXTesting doesn’t have a member dashboard you can log in to. Instead, everything will be done through email.

The invite will be sent to you via email. This email will contain the instructions you must follow to conduct the test.

The thing with UXTesting is that they don’t really specialize in any kind of testing, unlike most user testing platforms where you’ll immediately know if you will only get to test websites, apps, or physical products. So, you won’t know what kind of user testing project you will be getting until you actually receive the invite.

If you will be asked to test a mobile app, you’ll be asked to download the UXTesting app (more on this later). What’s clear, though, is that for every testing project you participate in, you must record a video explaining your thoughts.

So, make sure you have a device with a front-facing camera (a phone or a laptop) and a microphone. Make sure to also record the video in a quiet room so that you can be clearly heard. After you’ve recorded your video, you’ll have to submit it to UXTesting for checking.

If everything checks out, you’ll receive the reward indicated in the testing invite, which will be in the form of a specific amount. Later, I will explain how you will get paid.

Now, I’m not exactly sure how the process is for testing physical products because I never got to do one while I was testing the site. Plus, there isn’t a lot of information on their website regarding how their testing projects work, so I can only guess, based on my experience, how it goes.

If you are asked to test a product, it will usually be sent to you via postal mail. But if you are asked to buy a certain product, they will reimburse you for it. Then, you’ll be asked to give feedback by recording a video of your thoughts about the product. Sometimes, the project will also ask you to answer a survey designed to gather feedback.

Again, all of these are just guesses based on my experience, so don’t take my word for it. You will eventually find out if you get invited to test a product. I just wish they would eliminate the uncertainty by providing more information about the exact testing process.

One thing I noticed, though, while I was testing the site is that there aren’t a lot of projects available. While this may vary depending on your location, the opportunities to earn are fewer than usual, in my opinion. Later, I will explain what this means. How do you get paid?

When you participate in a testing project, you will earn the indicated amount, which will be sent to you via PayPal. So, if you decide to sign up for this website, you’ll need a PayPal account.

The payment will be processed automatically once your work is approved. Then, it will take up to one week for the amount to be credited to your PayPal account.

The payment process is relatively straightforward. I like the fact that it doesn’t have a payout threshold you must reach to withdraw your earnings. You just need to be patient because one week is a bit of a long time to wait to receive your earnings.

How much money can you make?

The amount you can earn from UXTesting will mostly depend on how many testing projects you can complete. But as mentioned earlier, there aren’t a lot of opportunities to earn, so it will take quite some time before you can earn a significant amount from it.

As for how much you can earn per project, testers get paid $10 for a 30-minute test, which is a bit below the average rate, in my experience. For testing projects that take more than an hour to finish, you’ll get paid significantly more. However, these opportunities are few and far between, so you can usually expect to earn around $10 per test.

This is why I would classify its earning potential as quite low, mainly because there aren’t a lot of projects available.

Can you use it on mobile?

As mentioned earlier, you’ll be asked to download their mobile app if you are asked to test another mobile app. They said that you can download the app from the Google or iOS app store, but upon checking, I couldn’t find the app in either app store.

The only link I could find was a link to download the APK file for the Android version of the app. This means you’ll have to install the app manually to use it. If you are not familiar with how to do it, then I suggest you read up on how to install an Android app manually.

Now, as explained earlier, you’ll need a device with a front-facing camera when recording videos for the testing project, and the easiest device that has that is your mobile phone. So, technically speaking, you’ll need to use your mobile phone to earn from it unless you want to record videos using your laptop or desktop.

Who can join UXTesting?

The site doesn’t tell you exactly which countries it is available in, but as far as I can tell, you can apply as a tester anywhere in the world. Just bear in mind that in some countries, there will be fewer earning opportunities. Based on my experiences, countries like the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and major countries in Europe usually offer more opportunities to earn.

To become a tester, you must fill out the registration form. Then, the site mentioned something about a sample test you must pass, but I never encountered one when I was testing UXTesting. I’m not sure if they have removed this part of it is just a glitch, but that’s what happened when I was testing it.

After you are done with the registration process, all you have to do is wait for project invitations, which will be sent via email. Because, as mentioned earlier, there’s no dashboard you can log in to check for available projects.

Can you get support?

If you have questions about the site, you can check out the FAQ section. It discusses some of the basic topics you need to know about UXTesting. And as mentioned, it doesn’t provide a lot of useful information regarding the earning process. So, if you add up those two factors, you will most likely have unanswered questions.

Fortunately, they do provide a way for you to ask for assistance. You can submit your inquiry through the contact form provided by the website. It’s a convenient way to ask for help, but I still wish their website would provide more useful information, especially about the earning opportunity it offers to reduce the instances of having to contact support.

UXTesting is a legit user testing site that will let you earn by testing products, websites, and apps. It has a couple of decent features, but it has certain limitations you need to know.

So, you will have to wait a long time to earn a significant amount from it, which is why you are better off joining other user testing sites that offer more opportunities to earn.
